It’s hard to over look Washington, DC on July 4th… unless you’re actually overlooking Washington!
Patriots partied in true American fashion — and with the Civil War Comrades playing Yankee Doodle — at the Monumental Fourth Wednesday evening at Arlington House overlooking Washington from atop the famous cemetery grounds.
The Save Historic Arlington House Fourth of July Celebration wowed guests with an American barbecue, musket demonstrations, historical period costumes, and tours of the home… all to raise awareness and funds to renovate the historic home and grounds of Robert E. Lee.
On hand were master of ceremonies The Honorable Ben Jones (House of Reps, GA-4, 1989-1993) — maybe best known as Cooter from the original Dukes of Hazard television series!! — The Honorable Barbara Favola, (State Senator, VA-31), and The Honorable Jim Moran (House of Reps, VA-8), all urging guests to donate to save the home as a precious piece of history.
Anne Carter Zimmer, Robert E. Lee’s great-granddaughter, was also a featured guest. Zimmer entertained guests with family stories and signing copies of the Robert E. Lee Family Cooking and Housekeeping Book.
