A Happening on High: CityCenter Phase I Opens

Last Wednesday night, the city got its first-ever glimpse of CityCenter DC — multiple towers of hundreds of rental apartments and condos sitting atop a variety of retail where, in less than the last IMG_8978ten years, a convention center, sports stadium, bus terminals and an extensive parking lot have stood.

VIPs were greeted by a sweet and savory buffet from Italian osteria Casa Luca (located nearby) and musical entertainment by John Thornley of U.S. Royalty.

IMG_8975Between bites, banter and tours of two-bedroom apartments, guests appraised CityCenter’s accommodations, amenities… and atmosphere.

In addition to housing and shopping, CityCenter comprises two office buildings, a luxury hotel, a public park, a central plaza, and pedestrian-oriented streets and alleyways.  The estimated $950 million IMG_8974development actually encompasses 2,000,000 square feet and covers more than five city blocks.
