Thinking of redecorating? Or just love to see what the experts are doing in design? Check out the annual DC Design House, with 29 beautifully designed spaces volunteered by local and renowned talents, all to benefit Children’s National Health System.
The 2014 DC Design House — the 7th annual effort — is located at 4600 Linnean Avenue, NW in Forest Hills, and has been the six-bedroom, five-full/two-half bath home of the Marshall B. Coyne family for over six decades, currently owned by his granddaughter, Suzi Wilczynski, president of Dig It! Games.
In addition to founding the Madison Hotel, Coyne was an avid collector of art, French furniture and historic documents, so this home has flourished with artistic inspiration since it was built in 1929. And now, over two dozen designers are having their way with it, including Design Partners’ Nancy Colbert, Gatega Interior Design’s Joanne Fitzgerald, and Rill Architects’ David Benton and Jim Rill.
Some favorite rooms include the living room, lacquered in pale grey by Kelly Proxmire, an inviting kitchen done by Aidan Design’s Nadia Subaran (at right), and the adjoining family room dreamed up by Victoria at Home’s Victoria Sanchez.
The house will open to the public Sunday, April 13 and will be open daily, except Mondays, until Mother’s Day, May 11. Hours are Saturday-Sunday 12 noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $25.
