2021 N Street Village Gala Celebrates ‘Triumph of the Human Spirit’

N Street Village co-chairs host its virtual Gala from the Hotel Zena

“There’s nowhere else I’ve been where you see so much triumph of the human spirit,” N Street Village CEO Stroeder Stribling shared from the women’s shelter’s annual Gala — presented this year from its virtual headquarters, Hotel Zena.

“In this most difficult year, hope has been hard to conjure. But we are a Village bound together… in a commitment to a common good.”

Last year’s N Street Village Gala was one of the last events to happen in DC before a rash of cancellations and postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year, the non-profit reinvented its major fundraising night… just as it reinvented some of its support services for women over the last twelve months.

The Gala also celebrated the resiliency of the nearly 2,000 women each year brave enough to seek support at N Street Village, which in 2020 opened three new locations for shelter and permanent supportive housing and services to low-income and homeless women in the DC area.

The 2021 Gala event raised a record-breaking $1.7 million in critical funds to secure its operational future and continue its meaningful work.

Appearances by Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA), The View’s Sunny Hostin, N Street Village residents Belinda, Bonita, and Diedre (Steinbruck Honorees), and Debra Lee, Chairman and CEO Emeritus BET Networks (recipient N Street Village Founders Award) were among the poignant moments of the night, as well as a tribute to the late Arne Sorenson, a longtime supporter.

A celebration of generosity as well as a recognition of the strength and resiliency of the women working and residing at N Street, over 1,000 participants tuned in from all over the world for the livestreamed evening that included a mobile silent auction, a call to action donation pledge, and a musical performance from Infinity Song.
