2011 for Author Cathy Alter: Make Room for Team Cathy!

“My husband Karl proposed on New Year’s Eve and ever since, we try and do something special to celebrate,”  gushed “Up for Renewal” author Cathy Alter, excluding wild parties, seven-course champagne toast topped dinners or Top 40 radio-sponsored booze cruises from the couple’s definition of special.
“We trade off — last year, I surprised Karl with a weekend at a really remote B&B in Virginia.  This year is his year, so I don’t know what he’s got up his sleeve for me.”
Yet no matter how delightfully out of the ordinary Alter’s year commences, 2011 is sure to have some wild and wacky moments for the self-improvement author.  She is known for making her annual resolutions into year-long experiments for book projects.
“I‘ve had a bunch of ideas but haven’t been in love with any of them so far.  In order for me to devote at least a year of my life to something, I really have to love it or leave it!”

As for more personal resolutions, Alter is making 2011 the year to say  “No.”
“I want to see more of the people I like and less of the people I don’t. As I get older, I find that I am whittling down my friend list.  The ones who only contact me when they need or want something, the ones who can be subtly undermining or insensitive, the ones who just plain bore me to death and don’t add anything to the friendship – I just slowly started extricating myself from them. I really want to make room for people on Team Cathy in 2011.”
